Bi-level Cars
In the 1950's, railroads
who serviced large urban areas found a need for a high capacity
passenger car to handle the increased passenger load in those
areas. Railroads such as The Rock Island, Chicago & Northwestern
and Southern Pacific purchased these new (Pullman and later Budd)
'Bi-Level', 'coaches' and 'cabs'. The 'cabs' and 'coaches' were
designed so that they could easily reverse direction without having
to switch physical direction. Serving the Chicago area since 1954,
many of these are still in commuter operation in the that area
today. Con-Cor has models in both the corrugated and smoothside
versions, in paint schemes both past and present.
